Our biggest badge boost yet? Cadets soar through RAFAC’s stellar space programme
Cadets at 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron have been reaching for the stars—literally! We’re proud to celebrate a bumper badge milestone, with one of our biggest-ever groups of cadets recently completing their RAFAC Space Syllabus awards at Blue and Bronze levels.
The RAFAC Space Syllabus, originally launched in 2020 by former RAF Air Cadet and astronaut Tim Peake, has been a core part of our training ever since. It’s a fascinating and hands-on introduction to space science, technology, and exploration—covering everything from satellite orbits and space weather to the future of Mars missions and life on the International Space Station.

Our cadets have loved every minute of it. Whether they’re learning how rockets work, mapping missions, or exploring the growing space sector here in the UK, it’s a programme that sparks curiosity and opens minds. And with the syllabus recently remapped to align with a Level 2 Certificate in Space Studies, it’s more valuable than ever.
FS Ellen Seymour, the Squadron Training Officer, shared,
“We’ve delivered the Space Syllabus since it was introduced, but this latest cohort of awards is something really special. Our cadets have thrown themselves into the subject with enthusiasm and imagination—it’s been a joy to teach and to see them grow. We’re so proud of every single one who’s earned their badge.”
Cadets across training flights have completed either the Blue or Bronze level award, depending on their stage in the programme. With the Silver level not yet released nationwide, we’re already looking ahead to what comes next.
Could this be the biggest crop of space badges awarded by a single Squadron? We’re not sure—but it’s certainly a galactic achievement.
