2286 Shoots For The Stars in UKROC Debut

Cadets from 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron reached new heights—literally—as they competed in the Midlands Final of the UK Youth Rocketry Challenge (UKROC 25), finishing as the top RAF Air Cadets team in the region.
Taking part for the very first time, the 2286 team joined cadets and schools from across the Midlands to put their engineering, teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test in this fast-paced STEM competition.
Their rocket soared to an impressive 739 feet, achieving a top speed of 168mph—a thrilling debut that earned them the title of highest-placing RAFAC squadron in the regional round.
“It was such an amazing day!” said Corporal Kisara Peramunugamage, one of the team’s lead designers. “We had so much fun launching the rocket and seeing how far we could push our design. We learnt loads and can’t wait to try again next year!”
The UK Youth Rocketry Challenge is the largest youth rocketry competition in the UK, encouraging young people to explore real-world science and engineering in a fun, competitive setting. For cadets, it’s also an exciting extension of the RAF Air Cadets’ focus on STEM, leadership and adventure training.
With this incredible first outing under their belts, 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron is already preparing to aim even higher.
