Last week, FS Amelia Van Ristell Hall swapped parade boots for garden party shoes as she stepped through the gates of Buckingham Palace to receive her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award from none other than HRH Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime day—and a moment that recognised years of hard work, service, and determination.

Completing the Gold DofE Award is no small feat. Amelia has given her time to volunteering, developed new skills, stayed physically active, tackled an adventurous expedition, and completed a residential—all while being one of the most committed senior cadets at 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron.
Speaking about the experience, Amelia said:
“Working towards my Gold DofE helped me step outside my comfort zone and try so many new things—from sports and music to learning to drive. The expedition and residential week were definitely highlights, and going to Buckingham Palace was such a special way to celebrate it all. I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone thinking about taking part—it’s a challenge, but so worth it.”
The Gold Award celebration at Buckingham Palace brings together young people from across the UK who’ve completed the programme—sharing their stories and celebrating what they’ve achieved.

“She’s been a brilliant role model to our cadets,” said Fg Off Seymour-Mackay, Squadron DofE Officer. “Amelia brings positivity, kindness, and quiet leadership to everything she does—and we’re so proud that all her efforts have been recognised in such a special way.”
Amelia’s is a story of quiet strength and relentless dedication, and we couldn’t be prouder.
