2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron took one step closer to the stars recently, welcoming Squadron Leader Jason Greenwood RAF from RAF Space Command for an evening of inspiration, insight, and space-focused exploration.

A passionate Squadron with a proud record in space training, 2286 were thrilled to host this special visit. The evening began with a captivating talk from Sqn Ldr Greenwood, who spoke about the vital work of RAF Space Command—from protecting the UK’s interests in space to tackling emerging threats in this new theatre of warfare. Cadets gained an inside look at the cutting edge of modern defence, as well as the growing role of military and civilian space operations in today’s world.
As part of the evening, cadets also explored key STEM topics including orbital mechanics, satellite telemetry, and the evolving opportunities available through both the RAFAC Space Syllabus and wider aerospace sector. The event brought space down to Earth in the most exciting way possible.
Cadet Sergeant Cerys Ryan shared her thoughts:
“It was incredible to hear from someone working at the heart of UK space defence. I hadn’t realised how many career paths connect to space—and now I know this is something I’d really love to explore.”
The visit marks another milestone in the Squadron’s ongoing journey through the RAFAC Space Training Programme, where 2286 continues to shine with one of the strongest records in the Wing for space education.
Whether learning about missions past or exploring the technologies shaping tomorrow, our cadets remain curious, engaged, and ready to reach for the stars.
