Treasurer Lesley Hooper Recognised for Years of Dedication

There are people who make things happen quietly, without fanfare—but with immeasurable impact. For 2286 (Coventry Arden) Squadron RAF Air Cadets, Lesley Hooper is one of those people.

We are overjoyed to announce that Lesley Hooper, our dedicated and long-serving Squadron Treasurer, has been awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service by Dr. Derrick Anderson CBE DL, the Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands.

Presented during a special ceremony recognising outstanding service within the Reserve and Cadet Forces, this award celebrates individuals who go above and beyond to support their communities—and Lesley truly embodies that spirit.

Lesley has been the steady heart of our Squadron’s Civilian Committee for more than twelve years, first joining when her daughter Holly became a cadet. While Holly has long since moved on to university and her career, Lesley stayed—driven not by obligation, but by passion and belief in what the RAF Air Cadets offers young people.

Her work behind the scenes—balancing budgets, ensuring smooth audits, offering wise advice, and supporting every major decision—has kept our Squadron financially strong and future-focused. Beyond the numbers, Lesley has been a welcoming face for new volunteers, a listening ear for cadet parents, and a pillar of support for our Squadron team.

“Lesley’s dedication and warmth have helped shape this Squadron into what it is today,” said Flight Lieutenant Julie Seymour RAFAC, Officer Commanding of 2286 Squadron. “We owe so much to her steady presence and generous heart.”

This certificate is not just an award—it’s a symbol of appreciation from the highest civic level in our region, recognising years of quiet leadership and heartfelt service. Lesley, we couldn’t be prouder.

Want to get involved like Lesley? We’re always looking for passionate people to support our Squadron—whether you’re great with numbers, ideas, logistics, or just want to give back. You don’t need a uniform to make a difference.
